Classic Oman 10 days

After a relaxing couple of nights relaxing on the sweeping beaches at the Al Bustan, you will be collected by your private Omani driver/guide who will accompany you for the duration of your journey inland. 
You start by driving south, heading off-road along the Wadi Arbaeen and stopping for a picnic lunch at a remote wadi. Continue through Sur and Quriyat towards Wahiba Sands which consists of long, straight dunes stretching from north to south. By having two nights in the desert, this itinerary gives you the option of driving the length of the desert to where the sand meets the Arabian Sea at Ras al Ruwais. You can also meet a Bedouin Family and enjoy an Arabic coffee, a refreshing change from the endless number of cappuccinos we have at home!

There are some spectacular off-road drives on the route and many opportunities to get a real glimpse into the life and traditions of the Omani people. Experiences such as attending a camel market at Sinaw are not to be missed, and this happens on Thursdays. Camels are highly prized in Omani culture and a beautifully bred camel can sell for a small fortune! We would also recommend coinciding your stay in Nizwa with the lively Friday livestock market. 
Further north in and around the ancient city of Nizwa you will have the chance to do some light trekking around some of the mountain villages as well as exploring forts and driving to the top of Jebel Shams (Oman's highest peak). By spending a night at both the Alila and the View you can explore far more of this amazing corner of Oman.

The walk from Al Aqur to Sayq is superb and could be done on the afternoon you arrive. It is worth also visiting the unusual beehive shaped tombs dating back to the Bronze age that are dotted around the landscape at Wadi Al Ayn. 
Your journey back to Muscat begins with a visit to the small village of Al Hamra before walking to the Biled Sayt. You will board your 4x4 and then head off-road through Wadi Beni Awf to Rustaq - it is an amazing end to your adventure in the interior, as it takes you far off the beaten track surrounding by breathtaking scenery.

After all the activity you will have the option to head back to the coast to relax, explore Muscat or dive and snorkel from the hotel
